Pregnancy and Postpartum Depression and Anxiety Treatment
Treatment can begin at any number of points during or following your pregnancy. For some, it starts with a screening in your obstetrician's office. For others, a physician or nurse may ask for an assessment after delivery if they notice or you mention symptoms of depression or anxiety.
For women who have been diagnosed with risk factors or symptoms of postpartum depression, we provide a follow-up phone call that may include scheduling an in-office consultation and completing a postnatal depression scale questionnaire. Individual therapy or medication may be recommended. If medication is suggested, you are referred to a psychiatrist from Alexian Brothers Behavioral Health Hospital who will monitor your treatment. We also offer consultations for women interested in becoming pregnant who are taking antidepressants.
