Hospitalization for Bariatric Surgery at Alexian
Our Tests, Treatments and Therapies
In preparing for your stay at the hospital, we recommend that you bring along a support person to help you make the transition. In addition, be sure to bring the following items to the hospital with you:
- Insurance card
- Toiletry items
- Shampoo
- Hairbrush
- Moisturizing cream
- Glasses
- Deodorant
- Lip balm
- Feminine hygiene products (if applicable)
- CPAP machine (if you have sleep apnea)
- Personal battery-powered fan
- Slippers
- Robe or pajamas
- Outfit for the day you go back home
- Portable music player with headphones
- Any other item you feel will help ease this transformation
Though you will most likely be in a semi-private room with a roommate, we will respect your privacy and only discuss your care with professionals who are directly involved.
As part of your recovery process it is important that you actively participate in the post-surgical activities designed to help speed your recovery, such as walking and breathing sessions.
Before you are sent home from the hospital we will prepare you to safely care for yourself. We will teach you about your medications, drains, activity, and what to do if an emergency situation arises. You will also receive written discharge instructions with contact phone numbers prior to leaving the hospital. We try to discharge patients prior to noon. Please help us by having a family member available to drive you home on that day.
