Our Services
Asthma
St. Alexius Medical Center has an in-house and outpatient Asthma Education Program. All patients admitted with a diagnosis of asthma receives a complete in-depth asthma education that includes identifying symptoms, triggers, environmental controls, school issues and more. Patients are also instructed on the proper way to use inhalers and peak flow meters.
Breast Care Center
The Breast Care Center is conveniently located in Doctors Building Three located adjacent to St. Alexius Medical Center's Outpatient Bettendorf Pavilion. Screening and diagnostic mammography, breast biopsy ultrasound and stereotactic breast biopsy are performed in this dedicated area. All mammograms are read by a board-certified radiologist with the aid of a R-2 Imaging Computer Detection device.
Additional services provided in the Breast Care Center include:
- Bone Densitometry (DEXA)
- Genetic counseling is available for women who have a family history of breast cancer
- Mammacare® breast self-examination instructions are available at no charge
Our comprehensive cancer treatment care center utilizes cutting-edge technologies such as CAT Scan and Breast Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) as diagnostic tools and the most advanced forms of radiation therapy available.
Diagnostic Imaging/Radiology
The Diagnostic Imaging/Radiology Department at St. Alexius Medical Center is a full-service department providing the following procedures:
- General x-ray
- CT scan
- MRI
- Heart scan
- Ultrasound
- Nuclear medicine
- Non-invasive vascular imaging
- Interventional radiology
- Arterial and venous imaging
Our Level II Trauma Center treats patients with acute injuries and illnesses. Special emergency care of children is provided in Emergikids from noon until midnight.
ETS Surgery for Hyperhidrosis
Our specially trained surgeons perform Endoscopic Thoracic Sympathectomy (ETS) on patients who suffer from excessive sweating of the hands, axilla, feet, face and facial blushing. This minimally invasive procedure is performed on an outpatient basis.

Alexian Brothers Medical Center offers resources, support, and assistance for all patients seeking financial assistance to pay for their treatment.
Diagnostic and interventional cardiology provides electrocardiograms (EKG), echocardiography, stress tests, holter monitoring, angiograms, angioplasty and stent placement, tilt table tests, cardio version and pacemaker insertion.
Laboratory
The Laboratory is accredited by the College of American Pathologists and provides the following services:
- Chemistry
- Microbiology
- Hematology
- Pathology

- Phlebotomy
- Transfusion services
Laboratory services are accessible through the Outpatient Bettendorf Pavilion or the satellite draw station available at the Alexian Medical Plaza, conveniently located near the hospital at 1786 Moon Lake Boulevard in Hoffman Estates. The Medical Plaza provides free parking conveniently located near the building.
The Alexian Older Adult Institute is designed to provide an innovative, seamless continuum of care for older adults from wellness, to early detection of disease, through inpatient and post-acute care. Our overall goal is to optimize the quality of life, addressing the physical, emotional, social and spiritual needs of older adults. Golden Circle - membership program for adults 50 years of age and older. Provides free health screenings, educational programs, fitness programs, social activities, travel and more for only $12.00 per year.
Recognized as one of the leading centers for orthopedics in the Midwest, the Alexian Orthopedics Institute enlists a comprehensive leading-edge approach to the prevention, assessment, treatment and rehabilitation of musculoskeletal injuries, including aching backs, arthritis pain, sports injuries, and work injuries.
The Pediatric unit provides specialized care for children by physicians, nurses and staff with expertise in pediatric medical care. Our staff of pediatricians represents many pediatric sub-specialists that are board-certified and fellowship trained in their specialty. Child Life Specialists help children and their families adjust to the hospital setting. The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) is ready and equipped for serious situations. Hospital Intensivists, who are board-certified pediatricians with additional training in the care of severely ill children, work with the child's pediatrician or family practitioner to provide care for the patient while in PICU.
Pulmonary Diagnostics
Highly skilled respiratory care practitioners provide pulmonary function testing, arterial blood gas analysis, co-oximetry, pulse oximetry, bedside spirometry, peak flow monitoring and ventilator care.
We cater to the special needs of women with our family-centric care and with our Special Care Nursery staffed by specialists in neonatology. We also offer special gynecologic programs and breast health education. Lactation consultants help new mothers with breast-feeding. Construction for a Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit has begun. Final approval is expected in April 2009.
