Grief Response at Alexian Brothers Medical Center

Alexian Brother Medical Center is collaborating with Alexian Brothers Parish Services, Center for Spiritual Care at Alexian Brothers Medical Center, Alexian Brothers Medical Center Volunteer Department, Alexian Brothers Hospice and Community Resource Center to provide an overall grief response to family members who have lost a loved one.  Click here for a timeless flyer of events.

The following services and events will be provided:

Memorial Services

Held quarterly (January, April, July, October) in the Maddalene and Charles Pastika Memorial Chapel of the Immaculate Conception at Alexian Brothers Medical Center.  Call the Grief Support Phone Line 1-847-952-7376 for more information.

Catholic Mass - 2nd Mondays, 7:30 p.m.

Interfaith Service - 3rd Mondays, 7:30 p.m.

Grief booklets 

A five booklet series will be mailed quarterly and at the holidays to each family.  (Special Care Series, Doug Manning)

Journey Through Grief

Offered several times a year with a morning and evening session - No fee

Journey Through Grief is a six-week course that will explore the tasks of grief, provide the opportunity to share experiences with others who have lost a loved one, and learn how to cope with loss. Companions Through Grief (4 options for ongoing grief support)

OPTION 1: Spousal Bereavement

Held 1st Thursdays of every month, 10 - 11 a.m. (free)

OPTION 2: Grief Support: Topical

• This is a topical study of different issues of grief open for all types of loss.

OPTION 3: Ongoing Grief Support

• This is a twice-monthly group that will provide support and guidance as participants continue their grief process.  It is ideal for those who have recently attended a grief group such as "Journey Through Grief."  Each session will provide both the support of other people and ongoing guidance through the life-altering journey provided by loss.  A licensed professional will facilitate each group.
