Comprehensive Ophthalmology Services
The Alexian Brothers Ophthalmology Services provides comprehensive ophthalmology services including expertise in all subspecialties including consultation, diagnosis, therapeutic care and surgical procedures performed by highly experienced ophthalmologists (Eye MDs) many of which are board-certified and fellowship trained.
Cornea and Anterior Segment
Consultation in medical and surgical management of all disorders of the cornea, conjunctiva, and anterior segment of the eye, including dry eye and chronic ocular irritation, intacs for keratoconus, partial and full thickness cornea transplants (DSEK), amniotic membrane transfer, pterygium surgery, conjunctivoplasty, laser corneal polishing (PTK).
Glaucoma Service
Complete diagnosis and therapeutic care for the glaucoma patient including diagnostic testing and surgical therapies.
Laser Vision Correction
The Ophthalmology Institute is proud to be at the forefront of diagnostic, therapeutic and surgical vision correction services.
Our services include:
- Excimer Laser Vision Correction, including Custom or Wavefront-guided PRL and LASIK for the treatment of myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism.
- Conductive Keratoplasty (CK) for presbyopia; a non-laser alternative to reading glasses.
- Verisyse Phakic Intraocular Lens for severe myopia in patients who were not previously candidates for LASIK.
- Veriflex Phakic Intraocular Lens for high myopia. Alexian Brothers Ophthalmology Services is 1 of only 8 sites in the country selected to be part of the FDS clinical trial for this exciting technology.
- Multifocal and accommodating intraocular lens implants; Rezoom, RESTOR and Crystalens - allows patiens undergoing refractive lens exchange or cataract surgery the ability to see near and far simultaneously.
Neuro-Ophthalmology Service
Diagnosis and treatment of neurological disorders. Diagnostic services and therapeutic procedures.
Occuloplastics
Treatment and diagnosis of blocked tear ducts, thyroid eye disease, eyelid tumors, malpositioned eyelids, eyelid reconstruction and cosmetic eyelid surgery.
Low Vision Services
Through a partnership with Chicago Lighthouse for the Blind and Visually Impaired, Alexian Brothers Ophthalmology Services brings expertise in low vision services to the northwest suburbs:
Pediatric Ophthalmology
Comprehensive diagnostic facilities for the evaluation and treatment of both routine and complex eye disorders. Subspecialists including pediatric ophthalmologists and optometrists to perform special testing and diagnosis.
Vitreoretinal Disease and Surgery
The Institute provides consultation in medical and surgical management of all disorders of the Retina, Macula and Vitreous with expertise in diseases including:
- Macular Degeneration and Dystrophies
- Diabetes Retinopathy
- Retinal Detachment
- Macular Holes and Epiretinal Membranes
- Uveitis, Retinitis and Choroidopathies

Clinical Research Studies
Alexian Brothers Ophthalmology Services is now participating in its first study in Bacterial Conjunctivitis and our experienced research staff is actively pursuing research projects to discover new advances in treatment and prevention of eye diseases.
