Diabetes Education at Nutrition Services
Our Tests, Treatments, and Therapies
Your physician may ask you to attend group and/or individual education sessions to help you learn how to better manage your diabetes and reduce your risk of serious complications. Whether you are scheduled to attend group or individual sessions, one of our registered dietitians will meet with you one-on-one to develop a personalized meal plan.
Our group classes include comprehensive information on important aspects of diabetes. Family members and significant others are encouraged to attend classes with you. This allows them to develop a better understanding of diabetes and provide support to you.
Each class is approximately two hours long. The number of classes you will attend will depend on your treatment plan and the personal goals you set with the help of your diabetes educator. Topics discussed in these classes include, among others, the following self-care behaviors:
- Healthy eating
- Being active
- Monitoring your blood glucose
- Taking medication
- Problem solving
- Healthy coping
- Reducing risks
