Stent-Assisted Coiling at Interventional Neuroradiology at Alexian Brothers Neurosciences Institute

Featured Cases

Another aneurysm with a very wide neck. The patient had symptoms caused by small blood clots forming in the aneurysm sac and then going downstream.
A Neuroform stent has been positioned in the carotid artery spanning the wide neck of the aneurysm. The stent is hard to see on x-rays but is marked by four tiny dots at each end.
The aneurysm has been packed with coils, the stent protects the artery from coils bulging out of the aneurysm neck.
Unsubtracted image (an x-ray), showing the final result. Note that the patient has a second, more distal aneurysm which has also been treated with coils. Patients with a brain aneurysm have a one-in-five chance of having more than one aneurysm.
Image from the digital subtraction angiogram showing the final result. The bones, stent and coils have been "subtracted" from the image, leaving the x-ray dye which shows the aneurysm is packed with coils but the artery is fully open.
