Giant Aneurysm Successfully Coiled with New-Technology coils at Interventional Neuroradiology at Alexian Brothers Neurosciences Institute

Featured Cases

A giant aneurysm is one that measures more than 25 mm (some physicians use a cut-off of 20mm). These aneurysms were difficult to treat with coils historically because of high rates of aneurysm recurrence after apparently successful coil packing. Newer coil technologies and stent technologies may improve the durability of coiling these difficult lesions.
This giant aneurysm was coiled using a new coil technology that improves density of packing. It is hoped that more dense packing of the aneurysm will result in more stable occlusion and lower retreatment rates.
The giant aneurysm is completely blocked off by the new coils.
Follow-up images at one year show stable coil occlusion of the aneurysm.
The giant aneurysm remains completely cured and the artery fully open at one year follow-up.
