Advanced Epilepsy Care Diagnostics
Patients at the Alexian Brothers Epilepsy Center have access to state-of-the-art diagnostic tools, including the only magnetoencephalography system (MEG) in Illinois—and a full range of other innovative brain imaging and monitoring technologies.
Magnetoencephalography: The MEG at the Illinois MEG Center within the Alexian Brothers Neurosciences Institute is used to localize the source of abnormal brain activity, which may be the source of seizures.
Magnetic resonance imaging: Our 3T MRI has customized epilepsy protocols that produce a remarkably accurate, high-quality image of the brain's structure to help identify any structural abnormalities that may be causing seizures.
Epilepsy monitoring unit(EMU): Our dedicated monitoring unit allow patients to be continuously monitored by EEG and secure video for 23 hour evaluations to help diagnose the nature of events of undetermined nature to better classify the type of seizure disorder.
Ambulatory EEG Services (In-Home Monitoring): Electroencephalogram (EEG)
monitoring system that records your brain waves for one or more days in
the comfort of your home. For more information, click here.
Other diagnostic tools that may be used to detect brain abnormalities are Computed tomography (CT) and Electroencephalography (EEG), the most common diagnostic test for epilepsy.
