Epilepsy Center

Multidisciplinary Epilepsy Treatment

The goal of epilepsy treatment is to prevent seizures and avoid side effects so that people can lead normal active lives.

Epilepsy treatment usually begins with medication. The majority of patients report these medicines successfully prevent or significantly reduce the number of seizures experienced.

For patients on medication who continue to experience seizures or experience unwanted side effects, other treatment methods may be recommended such as a special diet, surgery, or vagus nerve stimulation (VNS) therapy. Our Level 3 center offers Vagus Nerve Stimulation (VNS) therapy which involves a minimally invasive procedure performed by our expert neurosurgeons to prevent seizures.  Patients are referred to Level 4 epilepsy centers for resective surgery and ketogenic diet services.

Your physician may also recommend a neuropsychological assessment to evaluate cognitive and behavioral functions that may be affected by seizures.
