The multidisciplinary teams at the Alexian Brothers Neurosciences Institute take into account every opportunity for healing and optimizing quality of life. The Alexian Brothers Neurosciences Institute offers comprehensive assessment, diagnosis and treatment of neurodegenerative disorders, stroke and diseases of the central nervous system, including Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease, brain and spinal tumors, epilepsy, aneurysms and a variety of other neurological diseases. The hospital is the first community hospital in the nation to acquire whole-head magnetoencephalography (MEG) technology for real-time functional mapping of brain activity. The Illinois Gamma Knife® Center resides on the Alexian Brothers Medical Center campus and provides state-of-the-art, minimally invasive radiosurgery to patients with benign and malignant brain tumors and functional nerve disorders such as trigeminal neuralgia and vascular malformations. Gifts from you help us bring advanced neurosurgical and endovascular techniques and specialized equipment to northern Illinois that were never available here before, impacting the lives of countless individuals.

Alexian Center for Brain Research: New brain research is rapidly changing the way we treat brain disorders. Your donation will help fund high-quality neuroscience research that can be rapidly applied to improving the quality of life for patients with neurological and neuropsychiatric conditions. The center brings together interdisciplinary teams to study the relationship between brain structure, brain function and disease.
Memory Assessment Fund: With the expected increase in cases of Alzheimer's in the near future early detection and treatment are vital components to preserving quality of life for many. Your donation will enhance the quality of care for Alzheimers’ patients and caregivers and allow Alexian to invest in the most advanced brain-imaging technology, such as the magnetoencephalography (MEG) system. The MEG system allows researchers to map the unique activities in each individual’s brain. This represents a huge breakthrough for identifying sources of brain disorders, such as autism spectrum disorder, epilepsy, learning disabilities and depression, and in finding therapies that will help those suffering from them. Alexian Brothers Health System distinguishes itself as the only community-based hospital system in the US to offer the complete spectrum of FDA-approved brain imaging technologies.
Neurosciences General Fund: The field of neuroscience is seeing some of the most promising research for understanding and treating our most devastating diseases such as Alzheimer, Parkinson and ALS. Your donation will help fund community outreach, including educational materials for Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias, Parkinson’s disease and other movement disorders, stroke, brain and spinal tumors, epilepsy, aneurysms and a variety of other neurological diseases.
Stroke and Endovascular Assistance Fund: The Community Family Health Center embodies the Alexian Brothers’ mission to serve the needs of all people in the community. Ninety percent of the people served by the Community Family Health Center are Hispanic. All members of the Center’s staff are bilingual and offer holistic care to every patient and family that comes for help. Your donation to the Center assists low-income, uninsured populations with basic primary care needs such as stroke screenings and stroke prevention education materials as well as other personal health education.
Continuing Medical Education: Ongoing education for nurses is vital to delivering state-of-the-art care. The Medical Continuing Education Fund at Alexian Brothers Neurosciences Institute provides opportunities for nurses and other staff working directly with patients who suffer stroke and live with a variety of cerebral diseases to obtain needed continuing education. Your gift to this fund will help us continue our commitment to provide the highest quality continuing education and training for our nurses and staff.
Stroke General Fund: Community education is fighting the war on stroke at the front lines. At Alexian Brothers Neurosciences Institute we believe that getting the word out about how to prevent and respond to stroke in an emergency will save countless lives. This unrestricted fund is used for outreach to policemen, firemen and health care professionals as they reach out to corporations and other civic groups to help them identify the signs of stroke and to take the necessary life-saving actions.
