What to Expect During Cardiac Rehabilitation at Alexian Medical Mall
Phase 1
Cardiac Rehabilitation typically begins in the hospital setting after a heart attack or a cardiac procedure. During this phase a Cardiac Rehabilitation team member meets with patients and their families to instruct and supervise light exercise sessions. Blood pressure, heart rate and rhythm and oxygen level are closely monitored. The patient continues these exercises at home until starting Cardiac Rehabilitation Phase 2.
Phase 2
A physician referral is required to begin Phase 2. During the initial Phase 2 session, the participant meets with a Registered Nurse. Together they will discuss the program, explore individualized needs and set appropriate goals. After this consultation, participants meet 3 times a week for exercise, education and support. Participants exercise safely in a cardiac monitored and supervised setting.
Risk factor modification and heart health lifestyle choices are taught and supported.
