Volunteers have often been described as “the heart of Hospice”. Historically, ‘hospice’ services have been offered by volunteers for centuries. The Alexian Brothers have been providing hospice services for 700 years by ministering to the sick and dying. Today, Medicare certified hospices continue to rely on volunteers to fill many roles:
- Patient and family support
- Bereavement support
- Office support
- Special projects
- Marketing, and other possibilities
