Testimonials at Cancer Institute at Alexian Brothers Hospital Network
Give Back: Volunteer Opportunities
From the time she and her late husband Anthony moved to Roselle almost 20 years ago, Maureen Quattrochi says the Alexian Brothers have played an important role in her life. When she and her husband were in the process of finding a health care facility to meet their needs in 1986, they chose Alexian Brothers Medical Center without hesitation. Having served in a nurse management position for 20 years, Maureen felt highly qualified to evaluate a health care facility. "One of the things that impressed me most was the fact that the Alexian Brothers have been caring for the sick for more than 700 years," says Maureen. "I felt they must be doing something right."
For the past nine years, Maureen has experienced the healing touch of the Alexian Brothers in a very personal way since being diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma. She has had three major surgeries and several inpatient and outpatient procedures at ABMC, The Cancer Institute at Alexian Brothers and Northwest Oncology and Hematology. Most recently, she received state-of-the-art radio immunotherapy with Zevalin, a treatment targeted specifically to qualifying patients with the type of lymphoma she has. Maureen says she has responded well to the treatment. "Each experience I've had with the Alexian Brothers has been positive. The expertise, the caring and the compassion displayed by the staff truly reflects the Mission of the Alexian Brothers and I have the utmost faith and confidence in them," says Maureen. "The Cancer Institute has become a major resource for me." Maureen says she has great respect for her physicians, Dr. Bruce Bank, oncologist and hematologist, and Dr. Marty Boyer, radiation oncologist, as well as Patti Baker, Vice President Alexian Brothers Hospital Network and the other doctors, nurses and staff whom she has encountered through the years. She is also thankful for the many friendships she developed at Alexian Brothers Medical Center, which helped to sustain her through a difficult period of time when her husband died two years ago.
Because of the special connection she has with the Alexian Brothers, Maureen has decided to give something back. When the Life Enrichment Center at The Cancer Institute at Alexian Brothers was looking for volunteers several years ago, Maureen answered the call. "I felt it was where I belonged. I feel at home there and I can relate to the people I meet," says Maureen who works at the front desk welcoming people who come to the facility and making appointments.
Maureen has made a decision to express her gratitude in another significant way by establishing an unrestricted charitable remainder trust with Alexian Brothers Medical Center, in addition to making annual gifts to the Cancer Institute. "I am impressed with the accomplishments of the Alexian Brothers, the leading edge treatment and technology they offer, and the $400 million expansion program that is underway," says Maureen. "That says a lot to me about how they go about their business and their sense of stewardship. I am confident my gift will help them to continue to administer high quality health care. I really believe in the Alexian Brothers and what they are doing. Most of all, I am grateful, and this is one of the ways I can show it."
