Testimonials at The Cancer Institute at Alexian Brothers Hospital Network
Always Look Forward to the Future
My name is Bob Conroy. By the time you read this I will be 72 years
young and married to my wonderful, caring wife Joan for 54 years. This is my story of why you should always
look to the future when the unexpected happens.
In June 2005 I learned I had lung cancer and would
need immediate surgery of the lower lobe of my left lung. I was shocked, but only temporarily. I have always been a fighter of illnesses and
this was just going to be another one to shake off. My surgeon at the facility I was receiving
care at was totally convinced he had removed all of the cancerous cells and it
would never become a problem again.
Surprise, he was wrong! It was now back stronger than ever.
I moved shortly thereafter and had to find a new
doctor and a hospital. St. Alexius
Medical Center was recommended to me and I am truly grateful that it was. All of their nurses are the most
compassionate, efficient and knowledgeable you will ever find, no matter where
you might decide to go to obtain medical assistance. This is unquestionably the
finest institution to be in if you have any type of cancer.
I began getting chemotherapy treatments
approximately 20 weeks ago and I know they are working because I am keeping a
positive attitude. That is the secret to fighting off any illness that attacks
your body. Don't become depressed and
start feeling sorry for yourself. Just keep the most pleasant thoughts of days
gone by in your mind at all times and you will be amazed at how much better you
will feel. I consider myself very
fortunate in that I have a wonderful caring family and a group of equally
caring hospital staff members all working together to help me get better!
Pray often to your God because he does listen to
you. Never loose faith because it's the
most important healer of all. Tell
yourself you are not going to give in to cancer. The doctors today are far more knowledgeable
then they were even ten years ago. Trust
in them and you will be fine. Look forward to the future and you will be amazed
at how much better your recovery will be!
