Social support is extremely important as you go through cancer treatment. That's why we offer a wide range of social services at The Cancer Institute at Alexian Brothers Hospital Network for you and your family. Specifically, our social worker can: 

  • Support and listen to you and your family members' concerns about the cancer diagnosis.
  • Provide information about cancer support, grief support and educational groups as well as suggest relevant reading materials.
  • Assist you with transportation resources
  • Direct you to the appropriate community agencies for in-home attendant care, Meals on Wheels, or adult day care/respite.
  • Perform psychosocial assessments for those in need of mental health and substance abuse resources.
  • Provide information and make arrangements for long-term care and planning.
  • Refer you to the appropriate medical team member to arrange Home Health, Rehabilitation, Hospice or Durable Medical Equipment.
  • Assist you with financial concerns, such as linking you to community agencies for utility assistance, minor home repairs, food stamps, Medicaid, prescription assistance programs and Social Service Disability.
  • Answer questions regarding Medicare and supplemental insurance policies, Living Will and/or Power of Attorney for Healthcare.
