Patient and Family Alliance in partnership with Alexian Brothers Hospital Network
About Us
We think it is important to be constantly improving our programs. That is why at The Cancer Institute at Alexian Brothers Hospital Network we have developed a council to examine, rethink, and re-engineer programs for cancer patients within our healthcare system.
In 2004 the Patient and Family Advisory Council was founded and consists of patients, cancer survivors, family, staff members and volunteers. The mission of this group is to assure delivery of care is of the highest quality for cancer patients and their families within the Alexian Brothers Health System. We do this by working in active partnership with healthcare providers to strengthen communication among patients, families, caregivers and medical staff.
The Council also strives to promote quality oncology programs by evaluating current programs and playing an active role in making changes to the range of services currently provided to our patients. This group also advocates for patients and families by educating those in the community about our services.
Recent accomplishments of the Council include:
- assisting with a mentoring program brochure for newly diagnosed cancer patients
- contributions to the content of our oncology website
- review of a new oncology book
- assist in development of a new council to help meet the institute's needs
Our oncology book is given to all new diagnosed cancer patients throughout the entire hospital network to assist them with treatment and provide them with education about their unique diagnosis.
In 2008 we launched a new council with a new name, new objectives and new energy. The Patient and Family Alliance was developed to address more specific needs for our patients and our programs. New subcommittees arose and we are on our way to making active changes in the way we provide cancer care for our patients.
