Breast Cancer Program at The Cancer Institute of the Alexian Brothers Hospital Network

Our Technology

The Alexian Brothers Hospital Network has always been at the forefront of adopting cutting-edge breast imaging technology. We were the first in the area to incorporate R2 ImageChecker, which is a sophisticated computer software used by radiologists to help them read medical images.

We are now first in the Midwest to complement mammography services with breast specific gamma imaging (BSGI). BSGI technology is particularly useful in serving as a complementary tool for radiologists and breast cancer specialists to detect breast cancer in women with difficult-to-read mammograms, such as those with dense breast tissue, breast implants or scar tissue from previous breast surgery. With approximately 80% of all biopsies being benign or non-cancerous, BSGI may reduce the rate of unnecessary biopsy by evaluating breast abnormalities at a cellular level.
