Stroke Rehabilitation at Alexian Rehabilitation Hospital

Our Tests, Treatments, and Therapies

The Stroke Rehabilitation Program at Alexian Rehabilitation Hospital uniquely combines the most advanced treatments and therapies that may help you achieve your goals. We have your recovery in mind from our inpatient unit designed exclusively for the care and comfort of stroke patients to the extensive team of physicians, nurses, therapists, and other clinicians who specialize in stroke rehabilitation.

Our goal is to help you to transition to your home and reintegrate into your community. We do this by teaching self-care and daily living skills such as dressing, bathing, eating, housework, and meal preparation. We also offer cognitive skills sessions to improve your memory, understanding, and communication and endurance training to help you gain strength for maximum participation in your daily activities. Other innovative and traditional therapies available at Alexian Rehabilitation Hospital include:

  • Assistive technologies such as rehabilitation engineering to help you use available technology to cope with challenges caused by a stroke
  • Driver rehabilitation
  • Orthotics (braces and splints)
  • A comprehensive cognitive evaluation to help determine beneficial treatments and assess vocational options
  • Peer counseling and support groups
  • Spasticity management to treat tight muscles in your arms and legs
  • Therapeutic recreation
  • Vocational rehabilitation

We also will work with your primary physician to ensure a smooth transition home and continuity of care.

Outpatient Rehabilitation

When you no longer need inpatient care, day rehabilitation or outpatient therapy offer the innovative treatments and services you need to continue your recovery. The Day Rehabilitation Program at Alexian Rehabilitation Hospital is specifically designed for those who no longer require daily inpatient therapy sessions but can benefit from multiple, intensive therapies to continue their progress.

Alexian Rehabilitation Outpatient Services are ideal for those who may need only one type of therapy to refine their skills, such as physical therapy for mobility or speech therapy for communication.
