Panic & Anxiety Disorder Services at the Center for Mental Health
At Alexian Brothers Center for Mental Health, we recognize that Anxiety Disorders arise in large part from distorted, illogical thoughts. In order to help clients overcome their anxiety, we use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), which in combination with medication, has been shown by the National Institute of Mental Health to be the most effective treatment approach for many people with Anxiety Disorders.
With CBT, clients learn to identify and change the thinking patterns that create and reinforce their fears and to change the way they react to anxiety-provoking situations. Clients start the program with a complete evaluation by a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor who specializes in CBT and the treatment of Anxiety Disorders.
All clients are encouraged to meet with their primary care physician prior to starting the program to determine whether there are any medical causes occurring with or underlying their anxiety symptoms.
Clients can choose to participate in a 10-week educational CBT group, individual therapy or both.
If necessary, medication may be prescribed to help clients manage their anxiety or any other co-existing conditions while they learn and practice CBT techniques.
Please feel free to link to the following questionnaire at FreedomFromFear.org to help you identify whether you may have symptoms of an Anxiety Disorder.
