Therapies & Interventions at Child and Adolescent Services

Child and Adolescent Services at Alexian Brothers Center for Mental Health offers specialized programming for youth ages 12-18.

Our team of highly trained professionals offers a comprehensive approach to treating a wide range of emotional and social problems through:

  • Psychiatric evaluations from a physician specially trained to treat children and adolescents
  • Individual, group, or family counseling with therapists who understand the unique needs of children and teenagers
  • An extended outpatient program offering therapeutic groups after school on Mondays through Thursdays
  • Ongoing medication monitoring appointment
  • A variety of therapeutic groups
  • Psychological testing to better diagnose and treat specific issues
  • Collaboration with teachers, social workers, and schools to ensure continuity of care and support
  • Case management that includes in-home visits, coordination with hospitals, collaboration with other treatment providers, and facilitated connection to insurance, benefits, and other needed services (such as medical or dental)
  • Vocational skills training and transition into work environments (available to graduating high school students)
  • 24-hour crisis intervention services

Our weekly therapeutic groups are designed to address emotional and social issues facing older children and teenagers. Our groups are led by counselors who understand the unique developmental needs of pre-adolescents and adolescents. Currently, the following groups are available.

Managing Emotions / Teen DBT

(Ages 13-18)
This group uses Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), which is a cognitive-behavioral, solution-focused therapy that emphasizes skill development. The overall goal of this group is to create emotional balance by learning and using positive emotional expression, communication, and coping strategies. These skills will enable adolescents to change behavioral, emotional, and thinking patterns associated with problems that can cause conflict and distress in their lives.

Teen Anxiety Group

(Ages 13-17)
In this ten week group, you will be able to learn practical and effective techniques to decrease your anxiety by mastering relaxation, coping with panic, overcoming negative self-talk, changing mistaken beliefs, and increasing self-esteem.
