Alexian Brothers Center for Mental Health

Mental Health and School Collaboration Grant - Illinois Division of Mental Health

The Illinois Division of Mental Health has awarded the Alexian Brothers Center for Mental Health a grant in the amount of $75,000 to coordinate a comprehensive mental health and school collaboration for students in northwest suburban cook county.

In many cases, schools may not have the budget for the kind of intervention and referral work that Alexian can provide.  This grant will allow for a school based mental health specialist to serve as the Alexian Brothers Center for Mental Health's chief liaison and coordinator with Elk Grove and Hersey High Schools.  The mental health specialist will establish teams of gatekeepers within each high school.  The specialist will teach the team about fundamental identification and prevention strategies so they can identify groups of students with potentially disruptive or destructive social and emotional behaviors such as bullying, alienation and aggression, as well as individual high risk youth.  Students who need treatment will be referred by the clinician to the appropriate resources.

We are happy for the opportunity to be partnering with the Illinois Division of Mental Health with regards to this initiative.
