Are you trapped by depression and treatment side effects?
Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) Therapy is a proven non-drug treatment bringing hope to people who have not responded well to antidepressant medication. This non-invasive medical treatment is available by prescription only, and delivered right in the doctor's office under the supervision of a psychiatrist.
What is NeuroStar TMS Therapy?
Neurostar TMS Therapy is the first and only TMS Therapy Device approved by the FDA for the treatment of depression in individuals who have failed to achieve satisfactory improvement from prior antidepressant treatment. TMS Therapy is a non-systemic and non-invasive form of neuromodulation, which stimulates nerve cells in an area of the brain that is linked to depression, by delivering highly focused MRI-strength magnetic pulses. Patients being treated by NeuroStar TMS Therapy do not require anesthesia or sedation and remain awake and alert.
Alexian Brothers is a certified NeuroStar TMS provider.
How Does it Work?
During the 37-minute outpatient procedure, you're wide-awake in a comfortable chair. A small curved device, about the size of a cupped hand, rests lightly on your head, delivering focused magnetic stimulation directly to the area of your brain thought to be involved with regulating mood. The magnetic field pulses of NeuroStar TMS Therapy are the same strength as those used in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) machines.
