Michelle Gebhardt, Psy.D.
Clinical Psychologist
Dr. Gebhardt is a Clinical Psychologist with extensive knowledge and training in the specialized treatment of adolescents and adults struggling with self-destructive behaviors such as eating disorders and/or nonsuicidal self-injury. Since 2005, Dr. Gebhardt has served as the Clinical Coordinator of the Inpatient Eating Disorder and Self-Injury Program at Alexian Brothers Behavioral Health Hospital. She has treated both males and females across the lifespan in individual, group, and family therapy. Dr. Gebhardt’s treatment philosophy is focused on Self-Regulation theory that integrates concepts from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing, Solution-Focused Therapy, and Family Systems Therapy. Dr. Gebhardt has treated individuals at all levels of symptom severity and motivation, striving to meet clients where they are at in their process to develop manageable, individualized treatment goals. In treatment she explores how eating disorder and/or nonsuicidal self-injury are used as a means to regulate and manage one’s internal and external experiences. In addition to other complex symptoms and difficulties, she treats all categories of eating disorder and nonsuicidal self-injury behaviors such as body image disturbance, emotional dysregulation, mood disorders, history of trauma/abuse, personality disorders, and relationship issues. For the interested client, Dr. Gebhardt provides individualized journaling tools and techniques to serve as a bridge between sessions and facilitate the clients’ self-focused learning. Dr. Gebhardt believes in the possibility for all individuals to recover and improve their quality of life.
