Family Options Program Group Descriptions

FOP groups are experiential, skills-based, didactic/educational, and solution-oriented. Therapists include social workers, psychologists, licensed professional counselors, dance/movement therapists, and art therapists. Following is a brief description of each group.

Anger Management Group

This group offers adolescents and their families information on how anger impacts our lives. Parents and teens attend separate groups led by therapists where they learn to identify situations that cause them to respond with anger. They are then given tools to effectively cope with the associated emotions.

Bullying Group

Bullying has become a significant problem for many children and adolescents. Coping strategies for parents and teens will be addressed in this group. The bullying students who are both bullies and victims will benefit from this structured group that will allow them to consider alternatives to these behaviors and to consider healthy coping strategies.

Chemical Dependency Awareness Group

This group highlights information on alcohol and other drug abuse, as well as the effects and consequences associated with a 'using' lifestyle.  Included are tips for parents on what to look for if you suspect your child might be involved with alcohol/drugs.

Family Communication Group

Even the best families have problems and conflicts.  Our communication about these conflicts determines how we solve them.  This group offers a unique educational and experiential process to increase awareness of family communication patterns and rhythms.

Peer Choices/Self-Esteem Group

In this group, the nature of self-esteem is explored and participants are encouraged to expand their personal awareness of their self-concept and the impact it has had on their choices - especially in their selection of friends and the external influences from peers.

*Please note: No siblings under the age of 12 will be allowed in the groups.  If families wish to bring younger siblings along, they can remain in the lobby as long as they are accompanied by an adult.
