Family Options Program at the Alexian Brothers Behavioral Health Hospital
The Family Options Program (FOP) is a brief, four-session psychoeducational program. This program is offered as a community service and is available free of charge. Families and teens may attend as many sessions as they feel are necessary. Referrals may come from schools, police, physicians, community mental health workers, and private therapists. Families may come to the program voluntarily, as a referral from a court/police diversion program, or as an alternative to school suspension. Families can request certificates to verify their attendance.
FOP is unique in that it affords teens/families the opportunity to interface with a variety of mental health disciplines including chemical dependency counselors, marriage and family therapists, activity/recreational therapists, music/movement therapists, clinical psychologists, licensed professional counselors, and pastoral counselors. Sessions are both conjoint (families and teens together) as well as separate. Techniques are experiential, skills-based, didactic/educational, and solution-oriented. Families and teens are allowed the opportunity to dialogue about their specific situations. Families may also discuss their desire to connect with additional hospital services if applicable. Clinical staff are available to assist in linking families with a free, comprehensive assessment upon their request.
