Alexian Brothers Behavioral Health Hospital Awarded Gold Seal of ApprovalTM  for Healthcare Quality

Alexian Brothers Behavioral Health Hospital has become the first hospital in the nation to have been awarded Disease-Specific Care (DSC) Certification in four separate psychiatric specialties: Depression, Chemical Dependency, Eating Disorders, and Self Injury

The designation has earned Alexian Brothers Behavioral Health Hospital the Gold Seal of ApprovalTM for healthcare quality from the Joint Commission. The Joint Commission's DSC Certification recognizes hospitals that demonstrate excellence in disease management, including the effective use of established clinical practice guidelines to optimize care.

To earn this distinction, a disease management program undergoes an extensive, unannounced, on-site evaluation by a team of Joint Commission reviewers every two years. The program is evaluated against Joint Commission standards through an assessment of a program's processes, the program's ability to evaluate and improve care within its own organization, and interviews with patients and staff.

"This certification means that Alexian Brothers Behavioral Health Hospital does the right things and does them extremely well for patients in these psychiatric specialty programs," says Maureen Connors Potter, executive director, Disease-Specific Care Certification Program, Joint Commission.

"We voluntarily pursued this comprehensive, independent evaluation to enhance and validate the quality of care we provide," said Mark Frey, CEO, Alexian Brothers Behavioral Health Hospital. "We're proud to have achieved this distinction for each of these four programs."

Alexian Brothers Behavioral Health Hospital is one of the Midwest's largest freestanding psychiatric hospitals. Located in Chicago's northwest suburbs, the 141-bed facility offers a range of specialized behavioral health services for children through older adults, including a comprehensive schedule of support groups, inpatient and outpatient programs, and treatment services.

Alexian Brothers Behavioral Health Hospital is part of the Alexian Brothers Hospital Network, which also includes Alexian Brothers Medical Center, and the new Alexian Rehabilitation Hospital, Elk Grove Village, IL, as well as St. Alexius Medical Center, Hoffman Estates, IL. Together these hospitals are known for advanced medicine and providing unsurpassed treatment and care to the nearly two million residents of Chicago's northwest suburbs.
