Our specially trained experts at the Illinois Gamma Knife Center use a revolutionary tool—the Gamma Knife®—to perform brain surgery with exact precision without using a scalpel. This noninvasive treatment option, called stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS), can effectively treat conditions once thought to be inoperable. Patients experience minimal side effects, and in most cases, leave the hospital the same day of the procedure, resuming regular activities the day after Gamma Knife treatment.
The Gamma Knife is the most studied stereotactic radiosurgery system, with over 30 years of clinical evidence and efficacy data. It is considered the gold standard in stereotactic brain surgery, as the first and only stereotactic radiosurgery system designed to treat only the brain. The Illinois Gamma Knife Center at the Alexian Brothers Neurosciences Institute is the only Gamma Knife location in the Northwest Chicago suburbs and is one of three in the state. Since opening in 2005, the Illinois Gamma Knife Center treats more than 200 patients a year.
