Interventional Cardiology/Vascular Services
An Interventional Cardiologist specializes in performing diagnostic and therapeutic minimally-invasive procedures for
- coronary artery disease
- heart valve disease
- peripheral vascular disease
If you have been having symptoms of heart disease or have a family history of heart disease, there are diagnostic tests such as a stress test that can provide information about what your level of risk is for heart disease.
If you have had an abnormal stress test, an Interventional Cardiologist can perform a heart catheterization in the Cardiac Cath Lab to determine the extent of disease in the arteries of your heart. The Interventional Cardiologist can either treat the diseased artery with balloon angioplasty or place a stent over the diseased area to keep the vessel open. These procedures are a less invasive alternative to open heart surgery.
Peripheral Vascular Disease
Plaque buildup can occur in any artery of the body. When the heart is not involved the procedure is referred to as peripheral vascular. If you have peripheral vascular disease (see our symptoms list and take our quick online survey) the Interventional Cardiologist can perform diagnostic testing and various interventions to treat the disease as an alternative to surgery. Our team performs these peripheral procedures.
