Nutrition plays an important role in cancer treatment, recovery and throughout survivorship. Proper nourishment can help you cope with side effects more effectively and heal more quickly. It is essential to building and repairing body tissues and reducing the risk of infection. Furthermore, good nutrition provides energy and improves overall health. Our dietitian (Certified Specialist in Oncology) is available to meet with you and your family/caregivers to provide a nutrition assessment, discuss your specific dietary needs and provide follow up as needed. This consultation may include the suggestion of foods to eat and avoid while managing treatment side effects as well as ways to enhance the immune system. A discussion of healthy dietary choices post treatment and strategies to achieve and maintain appropriate weight may also be included. Feel free to contact our dietitian at 847-755-8603.
Oncology Social Worker:
A social worker is available to all our patients to provide counseling and other services to manage stress for you and your family through all phases of your cancer. Please contact our social worker at 847-437-5500 Ext 5904 for more information.
Pastoral care services are available to all our patients and their families. A chaplain is available to meet with your and your family. A chapel is located within the Cancer Institute and may be used as a quiet reflection space or for services. There is also a larger chapel located in the hospital where one can attend mass Monday through Friday at 11:30am.
