A Staff That Truly Cares Is The Best Medicine
My name is Juanita and I was diagnosed on August 12, 2012, with metaplastic carcinoma, a rare form of breast cancer. I decided to have a bilateral mastectomy and to do it at St Alexius Medical Center. My treatment would be 8 chemotherapy sessions and 28 sessions of radiation.
Naturally, hearing the news was scary, but I decided from the onset to have a positive attitude. I believed the health care professionals at St Alexius would provide excellent quality care, so I knew I could trust them with giving me the best care possible. Everyone involved with me from patient care technicians to the specially trained chemotherapy nurses, radiation therapists and my oncologists were great! I had no worries.
I was determined I would not be that sick cancer patient that needed to be treated differently than before. I am fortunate to be blessed with wonderful loving friends and family who support me immensely. Luckily, all my treatments with this disease went well with no side effects.
It made all the difference in the recovery process, having a positive attitude and outlook. Knowing you are receiving the best treatment from a hospital staff who truly cares is the best medicine. I am thankful each day as I continue my follow up care.
Because of the extraordinary care I received at St Alexius, I decided to participate in the brick program. I am hoping that reading of my experience will help others. It is inspiring to know we can walk along this path of hope when we receive medical care.
