Breast Care Program
The Breast Care Program at the Cancer Institute provides breast cancer patients with the most advanced breast imaging and treatments available. We are among the first in the United States to offer 3-D breast tomosynthesis for breast cancer screening with a digital mammography system. Our services include:
- screening and diagnostic mammograms, breast ultrasounds and breast MRI
- minimally invasive procedures such as fine-needle aspiration, ultrasound guided core-needle breast biopsy and other minimally invasive biopsies
Our multidisciplinary team of caregivers work closely together so that patients can focus on regaining their health. Multidisciplnary conferences are held on a weekly basis to discuss individual case treatment options.
Our specially trained and certified Breast Care Nurse Navigators communicate with patients and their physicians to manage care from the time of diagnosis through recovery. Navigators provide education and resources which are vital to the ongoing care of patients including emotional support.
The breast care teams at St. Alexius Medical Center and Alexian Brothers Medical Center both received its second three year/full accreditation designation from the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers.
