Accreditation
American College
of Surgeons Commission on Cancer

St. Alexius
Medical Center and Alexian Brothers Medical Center each earned a three-year
full accreditation – with commendations – as comprehensive community cancer programs
from the Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons. Only 25
percent of cancer care programs in the United States receive this recognition.
The Commission on Cancer accreditation recognizes the quality of comprehensive
cancer care available at a facility and means that patients have access to the
full scope of services required to diagnose, treat, rehabilitate and support
patients with cancer and their families.
National
Accreditation Program of Breast Centers
The breast
programs at Alexian Brothers Medical Center and St. Alexius Medical Center
received accreditation from the National Accreditation Program of Breast
Centers (NAPBC), a program administered by the American College of Surgeons.
This recognition is given only to those breast centers that provide the highest
level of quality breast care and that undergo a rigorous evaluation process and
review of their performance. The NAPBC review includes such areas as
leadership, clinical management, research, community outreach, professional
education and quality improvement.
The American
College of Radiology’s – Breast Imaging Center of Excellence
The American
College of Radiology’s (ACR) Commission on Quality and Safety and the
Commission on Breast Imaging has designated the Breast Care Center at St.
Alexius Medical Center as a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence. This award
signifies accreditation by the ACR in stereotactic breast biopsy, breast
ultrasound and ultrasound-guided breast biopsy as well as ACR or FDA approved
accreditation in mammography.
