Internships are a vital part of any clinical training and finding the right one can jump-start a professional career. Clinical Training Program
For graduate students in psychology, social work, or counseling, an internship with Alexian Brothers Center for Mental Health will provide you with practical experience in a dynamic community mental health setting. Each year we serve thousands of clients from the community providing them with comprehensive treatment that also includes attention to their social and vocation needs. Our interns have come from Adler School of Professional Psychology, Argosy University, Jane Adams College of Social Work, Illinois Institute of Technology, Loyola University, Roosevelt University, National Louis University, and the Chicago School of Professional Psychology.
There are student training opportunities in several agency programs including: outpatient therapy, psychosocial rehabilitation program, transitional living program, case management, and partial hospitalization program. Placement in programs varies according to the student’s training needs, student interest, and best fit with agency needs. Student training opportunities include individual counseling, family counseling, group counseling, case management, intake procedures, clinical evaluations/mental status examinations, and treatment planning.
The clinical training program also includes:
- One hour per week (minimum) of individual supervision
- One to three hours per week of group supervision (including team meetings)
- Three-day orientation at start of training year
- Opportunities for additional seminars, trainings, and staff meetings
- Students assigned primary program placement with opportunity to participate in other programs
Masters students are required to be on-site for 24 hours per week for 9 months, August through May. Doctoral students are required to be on site for 20 hours per week for 12 months. Days and hours vary between programs and are often flexible. Proof of liability insurance, personal health insurance, as well as some health requirements at the expense of the student are required before the start of the training year.
